Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alice Hughes
Alice C. Hughes is Associate Professor and leads the Landscape Ecology group at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences. She has worked extensively across the Tropics, and previously held positions in Thailand, Australia, Costa Rica, and the UK before moving to China.
She also holds Honorary positions at the Universities of Bangor and Groningen and a position at the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation, and is a “key person” for Alert-Conservation. She is currently secretary of the ATBC’s Asia-Pacific Chapter and Chair of the Capacity Building Committee and a member of the ATBC Council. In addition Alice holds board positions for the Asian section for the Society of Conservation Biology, the International Network of Next generation ecologists, and the European Tropical Ecology Society, as well as a new group which aims to connect Early Career research organisations. Alice has also recently been appointed as leader of the Young professionals network for the IUCN’s commission on ecosystem management.
Alice has attended various Intergovernmental and International meetings and workshops with an aim of advancing conservation, and has given around 52 presentations at international conferences or invited presentations in universities and research organisations such as IIASA and is an author of 30 papers. Alice has also run 31 training workshops, (with over 450 people trained in 2016 alone) and organized a further 15 in addition to 5 field courses.
Chution Savini -Srinakharinwirot University, Bangkok
Chution Savini is currently working as lecturer and the Deputy Dean for Research at International College for Sustainability Studies, Srinakharinwirot University, Bangkok. She was the wildlife scientist for Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Thailand Program, during 2000 -2003 and 2009-2012. She was the manager for conservation project. She received her B.S. in Biology from Prince of Songkhla University (1995), M.S. (2000) and Ph. D (2007) in Wildlife Ecology Program from Department of Environmental Biology, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, Thailand. Her interest is conducting the wildlife study and conservation strategies using a science-based approach to strengthen wildlife conservation and research in Thailand. She has conducted the current research work on Human-elephant Conflict and ecotourism.
